Excavator working on a dirt construction site — excavator financing for contractors

    Excavator Financing for Contractors

Finance new and used excavators — mini excavators, compact, and full-size machines. We work with owner-operators and small crews buying from dealers or private sellers.

An excavator is often the first big machine a contractor buys and the one that pays for itself the fastest. Whether you need a mini excavator for residential utility work or a mid-size crawler for site development, MarCom Capital helps you finance it with a fixed monthly payment, so you can take on more work without tying up your cash or paying rental rates month after month.

We finance new and used excavators from dealers, auctions, and private sellers, along with the buckets, thumbs, and breakers that make the machine earn its keep.

    Excavators We Finance

    • Mini excavators for tight residential lots, landscaping, trenching, and utility work
    • Compact excavators for small site prep, pools, foundations, and septic work
    • Mid-size crawler excavators for site development, mass excavation, and utilities
    • Full-size crawler excavators for heavy earthmoving and larger civil work
    • Long-reach and wheeled excavators
    • Attachments: digging and ditching buckets, hydraulic thumbs, breakers and hammers, compactor plates, augers, and quick couplers

We finance all major makes, including the brands you already run on your jobs.

    Who Excavator Financing Is For

Excavator financing is a fit for contractors who dig, trench, load, or move dirt as part of their regular work:

    • Excavation and site work contractors
    • Utility and underground contractors
    • Septic, sewer, and water line contractors
    • Pool and foundation contractors
    • Demolition contractors
    • Landscaping and hardscape contractors
    • General contractors who self-perform site work

    What Does an Excavator Cost?

Excavator prices vary widely by size, age, hours, and brand. A used mini excavator can cost a fraction of a new mid-size machine, and a used mid-size crawler can cost far less than the same model new. In California dealer listings, used small and mid-size crawler excavators commonly list in roughly the $85,000 to $155,000 range depending on model, year, and hours. That is right in the range most of our contractors finance.

When you finance, the number that matters most is the monthly payment and whether the machine's earnings cover it with room to spare. A well-matched excavator should pay for itself through the work it lets you take on and the rental bills it eliminates.

Should You Rent or Finance an Excavator?

Rent when the job is short or the machine is a size you rarely need. Finance when you are renting an excavator most months of the year, or when you are passing on jobs because you don't have one.

Here is the test we suggest: total the last 12 months of excavator rental invoices, including delivery and pickup fees. Then compare that to 12 months of payments on a financed machine. When those numbers get close, owning almost always wins. At the end of the term you own the machine. You can keep it working, trade it in, borrow against it, or sell it.

    Financing a Used Excavator

Used excavators are among the most commonly financed used machines, and for good reason. Used excavators typically cost 30% to 50% less than new, and a well-maintained machine can work for many years.

When financing a used excavator, lenders look closely at:

    • Hours: lower hours generally mean better terms
    • Undercarriage condition: tracks, rollers, idlers, and sprockets are expensive to replace
    • Age: newer machines usually qualify for longer terms
    • Maintenance history: service records help support value
    • Seller type: dealer, auction, or private party

For private-party sales, such as a machine you found on Facebook Marketplace or from another contractor, the lender typically verifies the equipment, searches for existing liens, and pays off any lien as part of paying the seller. That protects you from buying a machine someone else still owes money on. Read more in our used equipment financing guide.

Can I Finance Attachments With My Excavator?

Usually, yes. Attachments bought on the same invoice as the excavator can typically be rolled into the same financing. That includes extra buckets, hydraulic thumbs, breakers, compactor plates, and quick couplers. Packaging them together means one payment and one approval instead of paying cash for the tools that make your excavator productive. Many contractors also add an equipment trailer to the deal so they can haul the machine themselves.

    Excavators and Section 179

A financed excavator can qualify for the Section 179 deduction like a cash purchase. For 2026, the deduction limit is $2,560,000, and the machine must be placed in service by December 31, 2026, to count this tax year. Both new and used machines can qualify. Ask your tax professional how it applies to you, and see our Section 179 guide.
